The coastal state has six offshore and around a dozen onshore casinos, which have been shut since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in March this year. Talking to reporters here after the cabinet meeting, All casinos in Goa were ordered shut from 15 March 2020. This was more than a week before the nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Casinos across the Indian subcontinent, including those in Sikkim, Nepal and Sri Lanka, have remained shut since March and there is no indication that any will open in the next couple of months. The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has made a request to the government to let the offshore casinos on the River Mandovi reopen, along with the restarting of popular river cruises. Under Union 5.0 guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs at the start of the month, most activities can start reopening in Goa, with certain limits.
